Love Thy Neighbor

By Chestine Edgar
For approximately the last decade in Burien; a diminutive, dark-haired woman volunteering at the Transform Burien non profit has been known as "Mom", the Clothing Bank Lady, or Charlotte. She helped thousands of people from Southwest King County find clothing, food or household items they needed to live. Charlotte was a living example of "loving thy neighbor" and she will be sorely missed in Burien. She and her husband, Don Berg, have freely given of their time to help the homeless, senior citizens, needy families, mentally ill and drug addicted, disabled and residents down on their luck. Charlotte passed away on July 5, 2022.

Charlotte was born in 1947, married Don and came to live in Burien in 1968. She and Don had two children-one in 1969 and another in 1974. During her years of living in Burien, she worked to get free public education for disabled children in Washington State schools, organized a volunteer program to help disabled children with therapy programs, raised her family and volunteered thousands of hours at Transform Burien. Charlotte  believed in family,  her faith and loving and caring for others.

People who worked with Charlotte Berg describe her as the kindest and most generous person they ever knew. Prior to her passing, she reminded her husband, Don, to be sure to tell all of the people who came/come to Transform Burien that they are all welcome to come to her memorial service. Her memorial service will be held at Highline Christian Church.

Transform Burien provides clothing, laundry, and love for those in need. Transform Burien has a new home at the former Sunnydale Elementary School, 15623 Des Moines Memorial Drive Burien, WA 98148 starting August 2nd. Our hours of service will remain the same. We look forward to seeing you there soon.
